Background checks are regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Most state laws concerning public records and background checks are very liberal and straightforward. In the State of Washington, public documents are available for anyone who wants to get through appropriate channels official state agency. Background checks are essential to the ability of parties to enter into various legally binding and as such are always a great idea. Background checks typically require written permission before performing the investigation. Occasionally, you may obtain reports without permission, but the findings can lack in-depth details.

If the background check negatively affects the consumer, the party accessing public records must furnish a copy of the report and an overview of consumer rights set up by the FCRA, and allow the consumer fair time to challenge the report.
